About the company

Food Research and Development Institute (FoodRDI; former Canning Research Institute) was established in 1962 with a Decree of the Council of Ministers No 163/27.09.1962.

FoodRDI is an established research and technological development center in Bulgaria for dissemination, commercialization of the results and services to the SMEs from the food industry. The institute has realized the transfer of knowledge and experience through a variety of programs and projects. It has experience as a coordinator and partner of projects in INCO Copernicus, USAID, and Second Health Programme.

FoodRDI activities are in areas food formulation and design, food safety and quality control, sensory analysis, and consumer tests.

FoodRDI performs:

  • Healthy food product development – functional, traditional, organic, dietetic food designated to different consumer groups;
  • Processing technologies development for plant and animal products;
  • Food safety and quality analyses (food chemistry, food microbiology, sensory and texture attributes, elemental content) in Nationally Accredited Lab (certificate No. 23-LI, 28.08.2013).
